“Some sneaky, bad [expletive] goes on with the fight guys in Japan all the time, and I think that’s what happened there. The day of the fight – the day ‘Cro Cop’ is fighting for me. How dirty is that? Tell me that’s not dirty. And it wasn’t true. They do that [expletive] all the time, man…Here’s what’s sad. There’s a huge fight market in Japan. There are fans over there who want this, but there’s some shady [expletive] people over there that keep it from happening. They know who they are, and they don’t want the UFC to come to Japan, and that’s a fact…They’re going to have to kill me. That’s where they’re going to have to do. We’re coming there no matter what. We’re coming there. We’re going to break through this thing. We’re going to get past these dirty, sneaky, bad guys in Japan, and we’re going to make it happen…If I don’t get killed over in Japan, I’ll be [expletive] amazed when I go ever there. I’ll be amazed.”

—Dana White proclaiming his willingness to take one for the team if that’s what it takes for the UFC to find success in Japan

In case you missed it with all the UFC 100 hoopla this past weekend, Cro Cop has in fact signed a three-fight deal with the UFC. Remember how DREAM said they had signed Cro Cop to a deal immediately following UFC 99? Yeah, well, they were lying. According to Dana, in addition to the fault he’s obviously placed on the Japanese fight promoters, he also blames Cro Cop’s manager he also blames Cro Cop’s manager, Ken Imai, for the post-UFC 99 fiasco. Dana says he has no problem with Mirko.

Things worked out great for CC. He wanted to fight more often and that's what he got. CC is one of the few fighters with many options and he exercised his dream option to get a more favorable contract. I think if Imai was the one who stired the shit pot he did a brilliant job. If CC beats Dos Santos and his next fight after that he's in line for a title shot. As far as the UFC in Japan I don't see it doing all that well. I've been here for ages and many people prefer the ring to the cage. I also doubt he can get top Japanese fighters because UFC would probably do 2 shows a year (that's if they even get there) there which would mean fighters would get few fights. I want to see what the atmosphere is like when Satoshi Ishii has his debut for Sengoku.
I can't see UFC getting a strong foothold in the Japanese market. The guys who run Sengoku and DREAM will have something to say about that. I'd love for the UFC to have a few shows here but I don't see it happening.

Danas got Uno, Mirko, and Akiyama so far to make some interest in Japan. (He let Gomi go to Affliction for some reason).

I kinda find it funny because he has been trying to get there so long but is having so much trouble. Like you say "The guys who run Sengoku and DREAM will have something to say about that".. and they are.

Did you catch the Akiyama fight? I thought he did well. he gassed for the thord round but overall, he showed up and did well.

ps - ya, seems in an article he bitched about Imai,.. but end of the day Mirko got what is was after
